Psoriasis Basics

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory condition of the skin, where the patient has red plaques often topped with scales that are silver color. Psoriasis can be passed through genes or triggered by an abnormality in the immune system. Psoriasis can be treated with phototherapy, creams and ointments, tar mixtures, and various biologic treatments. Both men and women are affected by psoriasis, and it is often not visible in public as many people either try to hide the condition or are in treatment. At least 2% of the population has psoriasis. This differs per country. Psoriasis can affect the face, elbows, scalp, knees, and other areas as well. Psoriasis for a given individual may be a minor issue or could be severe, depending on the individual and severity of their condition. These are the best two lotions to moisturize psoriasis.

Dealing With Psoriasis Patient Stress

Psoriasis usually creates quite a deal of stress for most Psoriasis patients. Part of the stress is about the pain and itching, some of the stress is pertaining to discomfort about others seeing the Psoriasis, additional stress comes from the cost of Psoriasis in time and money, and some stress also can come from patients wondering if the Psoriasis will ever clear permanently.

It would be nice to be able to say that there is an easy solution to the stress that comes along with having Psoriasis. In our experience having Psoriasis, stress about the Psoriasis only really disappears when the Psoriasis is not there. Therefore, the best solutions we have seen don't focus on counseling as much as focusing more on healing the Psoriasis.

Healing Psoriasis is not usually a permanent possibility without some Psoriasis coming back eventually. Depending on what treatment a patient agrees to with their doctor, Psoriasis may stay away for days, weeks, months, or years. The most important factor we have seen in lowering the stress level for a Psoriasis patient when Psoriasis returns, is having a plan.

The plan for Psoriasis when it returns is best discussed with a doctor. In our experience, it is not ideal to wait months or a year before dealing with a Psoriasis recurrence. It is best to deal with it ASAP with a dermatologist / doctor so as to have a plan, heal the Psoriasis, and lower the stress level of the Psoriasis patient.
